Summer Camp 2008

Green Scientists

June 9th-June 20th, 7:45 AM-1:00PM

USF Campus

Sustainability as defined by the Environmental Protection Agency is: meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their own needs. To achieve this goal the current generation has to understand how we are impacting the environment and what we can do to help. There are several aspects of sustainability, some of which are:

  • Green construction: How to use resources efficiently while creating 'greener' buildings

  • Energy: Alternative sources (solar and fuel cells)

  • Water: conservation and treatment

  • Materials: biodegradable materials; reduce, reuse, and recycle

  • Transportation: Efficient modes of transportation

  • Atmosphere: pollution reduction, air purification

  • Indoor Air Quality: efficient heating and air conditioning, sources of air pollutants and control

The summer camp will focus on the engineering and science behind "Going Green."
